70-200 mm class lenses with closed construction have always been very difficult to correct when it comes to the performance against bright light. After all there is a lot of shifting of whole groups of elements inside them, making it difficult to put a lot of inner apertures and ribs. As if it wasn't enough, a complex optical construction means that, in the case of the Sigma, you get as many as 30 air-to-glass surfaces where you can catch unwanted reflexions.
As a result the performance of the Sigma against bright light is far from perfect. Light artifacts and contrast loss are especially common at longer focal lengths. It's worth adding here, though, that they will bother you the most if you put the sun in the corner of the frame.
In this category the Sigma deserves just an average score as it lost a direct duel with the Tamron very distinctly.
