Lenses with PF elements inside usually have a bit more problems with the performance against bright light than their classic equivalents. It is connected to possible additional reflections of light on the 'grooves' of the PF element. In case of the Nikkor 6.3/600 in specific conditions the result of these reflections in a form of light rings of low intensity can be seen both on dark and light background. Fortunately this effect is not especially pronounced and you have to take a realy close look to notice it at all. Two crops, presented below, show it really well.
By the way, classic reflections in the tested instrument are present as well because it's difficult to avoid them in a construction of this type. After all you deal here with a big front element that is not sheltered by practically anything, and as many as 28 air-to-glass surfaces where you can catch unwanted reflections. Still the final result is not that bad. You notice some problems only when the sun is situated close to one of frame corners and such a situation is not frequent when it comes to a 600 mm lens. What's more, as you move the source of bright light outside the frame corner the overall contrast of a photo improves as well and the final result is better than e.g. the result of the Nikkor 4.5/400, tested by us not so long ago.
