9. Ghosting and flares

The Sony FE 16 mm f/1.8 G is not a lens easy to optimize when it comes to the performance against bright light. You deal here wih good aperture fastness, an ultra wide angle of view and a closed optical construction in case of which the movement of all parts is limited to the interior of the barrel. What's more, the producers used here 15 elements positioned in 12 groups and it means as many as 24 air-to-glass surfaces where you can catch unwanted reflections.

Despite a bar set so high Sony managed to do quite a good job. Light artifacts are quite easy to catch but their intensity is hardly ever high and their number is pretty limited. What's more, there are no serious contrast loss across the frame. In other words its the next testing category where the Sony lens can be only praised.
