8. Vignetting

The vignetting is a big problem at the 17 mm focal length. At the maximum aperture the light fall off in the corners of the frame reaches as much as 44% (1.68 the value of the frame). Stopping down the lens helps a little but it doesn’t disappear since at f/5.6 the light fall off is 33%, at f/8 it is 27% and at f/11 it is still 23%.

The situation is definitely improving at the higher focal lengths, where at maximum aperture the light fall off in the corners of the frame ranges from 20 to 26%. At the 50 to 58 mm focal length it’s enough to stop down the lens by one to get the vignetting down to 10%. At 30 mm, similarly to 17 mm, stopping down the lens helps, but just a little bit, and in order to actually get to the 10% level we have to adjust the setting to f/16.
