• brilliant picture quality of DX matrix corner,
• good picture quality of full frame corner,
• sensible chromatic aberration correction,
• slight coma in DX matrix corners,
• very small astigmatism,
• good transmission, reaching 96%,
• autofocus quite quick and silent.

• a bit too soft at maximum relative aperture,
• full frame distortion rather noticeable,
• clear coma in the FX matrix corners,
• vignetting at wide apertures on full frame ,
• against the light work could have been better.

The Nikkor AF-S 50 mm f/1.4G premiere was well- timed without doubt. It made all the Nikon reflex cameras owners very happy – users of Nkon D40/40x, D60 or D5000 were finally given a clear standard without the necessity of manual focus. The owners of full frame D3x, D3 or D700 have a lens with modern design which performs well even in the corners. In fact this premiere mattered the least to the owners of Nikon D200/D300 and D80/90, because they could keep using the older Nikon AF 50 mm f/1.4D but even them could welcome a more silent autofocus and a better frame corner performance.

Nikkor AF-S 50 mm f/1.4G is not without flaws. You could expect a better maximum relative aperture work, a lower coma and full frame distortion. On the other hand, the tested lens doesn’t stand out much from Zeiss Planar 1.4/50, which is twice as expensive – it’s really difficult to find a serious cause for complaint. Nikkor AF-S 50 mm f/1.4G will be certainly a good companion to every Nikon reflex camera owner as it will allow you to take excellent photos in practically all conditions.
