11. Summary

Pros:

very good image quality in the centre of the field,
good control of the chromatic aberration,
negligible astigmatism,
distortion controlled exceptionally well (the straight lines are not bent),
efficient and silent autofocus,
good work against bright light,
solid workmanship,
sensible dimensions,
3-year-long warranty period (which can be extended by next 2 years if you pay extra)

Cons:

very high vignetting in the whole range of focal lengths even on stopping down the aperture,
average image quality at the edge of the field,
slow fastness.

An ultra wideangle lens is, in fact, a must for every landscape or journalistic photography fan. Is the Sigma, presented here, worth our interest then? In our opinion, yes, it is, although its overall score is rather slightly lower than that of the Canon 10-22 mm. The Sigma can boast of better chromatic aberration correction and smaller dimensions but the Canon can offer sharper images, better fastness and a wider focal lengths range. However, the Sigma has the advantage of being less expensive – often a decisive factor when it comes to any purchase. It’s enough to say its price tag amounts to less than 500 $ so it is by almost 200 $ cheaper than the Canon – not a bad recommendation after all.
