1. Introduction
Two years after the launch of the stabilized 70-200 f/2.8 Canon lens, Nikon decided to answer in kind by launching the Nikkor AF-S VR 70-200 mm f/2.8G IF-ED. In fact it was high time they showed something new because the 80-200 f/2.8 ED model, which has been on the market since 1996, despite good optical properties didn’t feature either an SWM motor or stabilization; in professional journalistic usages the lack of these is nowadays a huge drawback.
