6. Distortion

70-200 mm class lenses at their maximum focal length usually show a slight pincushion distortion. On the small APS-C sensor it amounts to about 0.5% and it increases to 1.4-1.6% on full frame. You should expect a fixed focal lens to show a bit better performance and in fact we get it in the case of the Canon 50D. The distortion is just 0.36% so practically imperceptible. The photos taken with the Canon 1Ds MkIII show the distortion level of 0.98% so also completely not bothersome.
