- compact, well done casing,
- very good image quality in the frame centre,
- good image quality on the edge of the frame,
- negligible distortion,
- well corrected coma,
- slight vignetting,
- silent and efficient autofocus.
Cons:
- weak performance against bright light.
As you see the list of cons is quite short. The work against bright light is the only noticeable slip-up we found. In the rest of testing categories we get often very good results, average at worst. Other things you can complain about, which weren’t listed in the cons section, is too big number of these average results and too few outstanding ones. Macro lenses made us used to excellent performances – they are the devices which often break resolution records in a given system or at least get close to them. Here you couldn’t observe such a performance. The Samsung 2.8/60 won’t provide you an image of a noticeably better quality than good, system “pancakes” like the 2/30 model. However, it doesn’t mean you can’t be satisfied with its work, quite the opposite is true. In the aperture range from f/2.8 to f/16 the lens will give you images of good or very good quality across the frame. If you only stop meticulously counting lines per image height and ponder over 5-10% differences the photos taken with the Samsung 2.8/60 should satisfy you completely.
