If you wanted to be mean you could say that the Tokina 17-35 mm offers the perfect review of all different light artifacts you can get while working against bright light, no matter whether you work with a full frame or an APS-C/DX camera. Changing the aperture, the focal length and the position of the source of light you can catch practically everything: flares, multicoloured artifacts, contrast decrease, huge ghosting which can take up almost the whole frame, corners of the frame, overexposed by flares, mind you I don’t necessarily mean the corners with the sun inside… The situation is really dramatic; the fact that huge artifacts can be seen even when the source of light is positioned far outside the frame is especially painful. Let the number of photos, in which we tried to immortalize all possible variation of the artifacts you can catch with this lens speak for itself…
Dear Tokina optics constructors, it’s high time you learned how to optimize your products when it comes to work against bright light. No lens, manufactured by other producers has had such a bad performance in this category so far.
