Eliminating the flares doesn’t consist of just using good coatings; it also involves creating a proper construction of the casing. In the case of cheap lenses the build quality and darkening of the inner tube often leave a lot to be desired. Perhaps it is exactly the reason why the tested lens fares poorly when it comes to the work against bright light. The examples below show clearly that it is easy to catch flares, no matter what focal length and/or aperture you employ and no matter what the position of the source of light is. Even though you can’t speak about a tragedy matching the disastrous performance of the Tokina 11-18 mm, it would be difficult to call such a performance good. The results of the EF-S 10-22 mm model were far from perfect as well but still that lens fared better than the EF-S 10-18 mm, tested here.
