1. Introduction

The launch of the Nikkor-AF-S DX 18–300 mm f/3.5–6.3G ED VR, which took place in April 2014, was for me personally a huge surprise. After all less than two years ago Nikon presented the Nikkor AF-S DX 18–300 mm f/3.5–5.6G ED VR. A slight difference in aperture fastness but a noticeable difference in price suggested that you deal here not with a successor but an instrument completing a gap in the line-up of lenses. Still that move was a surprise because you can come up with many more interesting options, complementing the line-up in a better way than two megazooms which apertures differ in just 1/3 EV…

The test results of the Nikkor AF-S DX 18–300 mm f/3.5–5.6G ED VR were just average and didn’t impress us; I suppose they could be the main reason of a speedy launch of another model with similar parameters but more affordable price. Let’s check what the new Nikkor 18-300 mm has to offer.

We would like to thank the Foto Plus shop from Krakow for lending us the lens for our test.
