8. Vignetting

A lens designed for cameras with the APS-C/DX sensor shouldn’t have any problem with controlling the vignetting on a smaller 4/3 Micro sensor, right? Let’s get a reality check.

At the maximum relative aperture the brightness loss in the frame corners amounts to 28% (−0.95 EV). Taking into account the aperture fastness of the tested lens it is a very good result. By f/1.4 it is even better as the vignetting decreases to 17% (−0.54 EV). The problem disappears almost completely by f/2.0. where that aberration reaches only 5% (−0.16 EV).
