1. Introduction

The history of fast, standard zoom lenses of the Nikon system aimed at advanced photojournalists can be dated from the Nikkor AF-S 28–70 mm f/2.8D IF-ED which appeared on the market in 1999 and was produced for eight years. The demands of digital full frame and the need to offer an even wider angle of view were the main arguments behind the launch of its successor in 2007, the Nikkor AF-S 24–70 mm f/2.8G ED. Eight years passed and in August 2015 fans of photography were presented another model, the Nikkor AF-S 24–70 mm f/2.8E ED VR. Compared to its predecessor it gets not only an image stabilization unit but also an electronic aperture (the E letter in its name indicates that much). That kind of aperture makes it incompatible with camera bodies produced before 2007.

After its official launch several months had to pass before the lens found its way to shops in Poland. Finally we managed to obtain one specimen of it and test it thoroughly – we would like to thank the Nikon Poland company for lending it to us.
