10. Autofocus

The Nikkor AF-S 24–70 mm f/2.8E ED VR is equipped with an ultrasonic autofocus motor called SWM. Because of it the work of the focusing mechanism is silent and very quick. Running through the whole distance scale and finding the focus takes about 0.5-0.6 of a second, no matter what focal length you employ.

As it befits a good journalistic instrument, the autofocus of this lens didn’t have any accuracy problems. The number of misses we got in studio conditions reached not more than 1%. It is a splendid result.

We didn’t have any problems with front of back focus tendencies either so the Nikkor AF-S 24-70 mm VR didn’t need any autofocus calibration.
