1. Introduction

It would be difficult not to have a feeling that there have been a kind of renaissance of manual optics in recent years. There have been a lot of launches in this sector and new instruments are presented not only by such tycoons as Leica, Zeiss or Voigtlander, active on the market for many decades, but also by new companies, offering devices produced in Asia. Samyang, Mitakon, Venus Laowa or SLR Magic lenses are known not only to advanced photography fans but also to many beginners.

You observe new players trying their hand at optics in this segment all the time. Among them you can find the Irix company which, contrary to their rivals, decided to design their lenses in Europe and produce them in Korea. Their team consists of workers from mainly three countries: Poland, Switzerland and South Korea. Apart from new optical constructions the company decided to focus on build quality which is supposed to be a selling point and the main difference between their devices and the products of their rivals. First they announced the launch of the 2.4/15 lens in March 2016 and six months later it hit the shelves, being offered in two versions with different finishing: Firefly and Blackstone. Courtesy of Next77, the sole representative of the Irix brand name in Poland, we managed to obtains the more expensive Blackstone specimen of the lens. In the next chapters we are presenting our impressions concerning the new product – enjoy your lecture!
