In the case of the tested Laowa the focus is set manually with the help of a ring which is 28 mm wide. The ring turns smoothly and is properly damped. As a form of help you get a depth of field scale, with markings at f/22, f/11 and f/5.6.

Unfortunately the small working range of the ring, which amounts to just 100 degrees, is a big problem; mind you most of that range covers short distances. The most useful part of the range for this type of instrument, from 1 meter to infinity, takes a turn through an angle of about 5 degrees. It is definitely not enough to speak about any kind of comfort.
