10. Autofocus

The autofocus of the tested lens is noiseless and very fast. Running through the whole distance range and confirming the position takes about 0.3-0.4 of a second no matter from what end you start. It is a very good result.

When it comes to accuracy, photos below show clearly that the lens had a distinct back-focus on both bodies and it needed some microcalibration. Still even after that correction the accuracy of the lens left a lot to be desired. In many situations the lens was saved only by its significant depth of field so most of images could be qualified as useful. Still there were moments when out of a whole series of photos of the same object taken from the same place, several were seriously misfocused and the lens corrected the settings only after a while and then produced better results. Such a performance demands discipline from a photographer. You have to check the first photo taken with given settings; if it is sharp it means that, most likely, other photos will be good too. If the first photo is blurry you should set the focus anew and try again. More often than not it helps.
