6. Distortion
At the smaller sensor of the Canon 50D we didn't notice any serious problems with image deformation. The biggest chances to see it you get at 30 mm where you deal with barrel variant of this aberration of −1.25%. With the lengthening of the focal length distortion changes the sign - already at 50 mm you see slight 'pincushion' of +0.12%. At 85, 105,135, and 150 mm you deal with a more or less stable level of this aberration with the results of, respectively: +0.68%, +0.70%, +0.73%, and +0.68%.
On full frame distortion is higher but at no place it could be called really bothersome. Once again at 35 mm its level is the most noticeable, reaching −2.64%. At 50 mm focal length you deal with pincushion deformatiions of +0.62%. Further increase of focal length means distortion keeps a more or less the same level of about +1.9% and precise results we got at 85, 105, 135, and 150 mm are as follows: +1.82%, +1.85%, +1.88%, and +1.86%.
