7. Coma, astigmatism and bokeh

Coma correction is definitely not a strong point of the Fujinon 2/35. That aberration is clearly visible at the maximum relative aperture and remains being so even on stopping down the aperture to f/2.8. It certainly contributes to worsening of image quality on frame edges. Overall, the situation seems to be very similar to the performance we witnessed while testing the more expensive brother of this lens.

Astigmatism, understood as an average difference between horizontal and vertical MTF50 values, amounted to 3.6%. It is a very low value so the performance in this category can be assessed very positively.

Defocused circles of light look well when it comes to light spread within them. As a result the lens is able to produce very nice blurry background, with just a trace of onion-ring bokeh. We have some reservations concerning truncated circles – a result of mechanical vignetting. That effect remains visible even on stopping down the aperture to f/4.0.
