Pros:

  • very good resolution in the frame centre,
  • sensible image quality on the edge of the APS-C/DX sensor,
  • negligible longitudinal chromatic aberration,
  • slight lateral chromatic aberration,
  • lack of problems with spherical aberration,
  • low astigmatism,
  • moderate vignetting on the APS-C/DX sensor,
  • sensible performance against bright light,
  • out-of-focus images are pleasing to the eye, especially for a lens with such parameters,
  • quick, silent and accurate autofocus.

Cons:

  • distinct vignetting on full frame,
  • a bit too pronounced coma at the maximum relative aperture,
  • plastic barrel and mount.
In the case of the Nikkor Z 28 mm f/2.8 you deal with a long list of assets and just several flaws, all of them easy to predict so they shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. If you add to that a sensible price, reaching now $300, moderate dimensions, and weight, you get a quite interesting offer. I think many photographers might be tempted to give the tested lens a chance and they won't be disappointed; in return they might get very successful photos.
