1. Introduction

Not so long ago the Fujifilm X system celebrated their tenth anniversary. You have to admit the number of lenses compatible with their cameras is really impressive. At first the users had to make do with just brand name lenses but then the Zeiss Touit series lenses hit the shelves. Then third-party producers, such as Viltrox, Samyang, Tokina, and not so long ago also Sigma added their instruments to that group; they were mainly manual but you could find some with autofocus as well.

When it comes to standard lenses we are really spoilt for choice. Already in the moment of the launch of the system there was a brand name 1.4/35 lens and recently its successor with a bit shorter focal length was shown as well.

In case of sensors smaller than full frame I always emphasize the fact that optics producers should use small dimensions of the detector to their advantage and try to offer lenses faster than their full frame 35 mm format equivalents.

In this category there are a lot of lenses as fast as f/1.2 or even faster, mainly from independent producers, and among them you can find Voigtlander that, in July 2021, presented their Nokton series 1.2/35 model. Several months later the same lens was shown in the Nikon Z mount version.

We happened to get the Fujifilm X version so we attached it to our X-T2 camera and checked how it fared in our test. The results can be found in the following chapters – enjoy your lecture!

We would like to thank FoxFoto, a distributor of Voigtlander products for Poland as they were kind enough to send us one specimen of the tested lens.

You are also invited to get acquainted with our test procedure, described in the article "How do we test lenses?" If you feel it’s still not enough, please go to our FAQ section where you can find some further explanation.
