Astigmatism, understood as an average difference between horizontal and vertical MTF50 function values, amounted to just 2.7%. It's a very low level, once again nothing to worry about. In this category the new model fares much better than the faster FE 1.2/50 GM.

Out-of-focus images look nice. Light spread in the circles is even, with barely visible onion-ring bokeh despite using aspherical elements. A brighter rim that appears on more significant stopping down of the aperture, is not especially intensive. Mechanical vignetting is a bit bigger problem as it can be bothersome even on stopping down the aperture by 2 EV.
