1. Introduction

There are a lot of 50-60 mm lenses in the Fujifilm system. It all started with the XF 60 mm f/2.4 R Macro model, launched, along with the whole Fuji X system, in 2012.

Two years later, in 2014, the company showed two versions of the Fujinon XF 56 mm f/1.2 R, in 2017 they presented the shapely and sharp XF 50 mm f/2 R WR, and in 2020 – the fast Fujinon XF 50 mm f/1.0 R XF. In the following chart you can find a comparison between basic parameters of all lenses, mentioned above.

To be honest I didn't expect any new launches in this segment. When it comes to portrait lenses I would rather expect a fast 90 mm instrument because this system still lacks an equivalent of a very fast 135 mm lens. After all, the XF 90 mm f/2 R LM WR shouldn't be considered as such, guaranteeing you rather a better reproduction scale than good aperture fastness.

Fujifilm Fujinon XF 56 mm f/1.2 R WR - Introduction

Still, Fujifilm managed to surprise me and in September 2022 they showed the Fujinon XF 56 mm f/1.2 R WR, the official, weather-sealed successor of models with the same parameters that were launched in 2014.

Courtesy of the Polish Fujifilm   subsidiary the new lens was sent to our editorial office and we could test it properly. The results you can find in the following chapters – enjoy your reading!
