A big front element that is positioned quite close to the edge of the casing, the optical construction, consisting of as many as 20 element positioned in 14 groups so as many as 28 air-to-glass surfaces, all these feature set the bar really high when it comes to the performance against bright light. Unfortunately, some problems cannot be avoided. When the sun is situated inside the frame or right outside it, you don't catch many classic flairs and reflections but the overall contrast loss is noticeable, reaching the peak of its intensity when you move the source of bright light outside the frame. This effect becomes even more pronounced on stopping down the aperture.
Fortunately, at this focal length the situation when the sun is very close to the frame is very rare indeed. After moving it a tad further away, everything returns to an expected norm.
Of course it doesn't change the fact that here the Sigma cannot be praised, its performance being medium at the most. Perhaps it is not a flaw yet, but it's very close to it.
