Photos of the starry sky confirm the results of the diode test. The shape and size of deformations are very similar to the deformations of the diode and once again you can say that the Sony FE 28-70 mm f/2 GM doesn't have any significant problems with coma correction.

Astigmatism, understood as an average difference between horizontal and vertical MTF50 function values, amounted to 8.6%. It's a low value so we don't have any reasons to complain. It's worth noticing here that the astigmatism reaches its minimum in the middle of the focal range and it shouldn't surprise you, remembering how excellent resolution results we observed in that place.
The appearance of out-of-focus images is quite decent for a zoom type lens. Although you have to admit that, taking into account the fact that Sony boasts of their precise aspherical elements, there is a bit too much of onion-ring bokeh. Perhaps it stems from the fact that the optical construction features as many as six aspherical elements of two different types so that effect was rather unavoidable. Mechanical vignetting looks well for a change – it is distinct only at the maximum relative aperture, by f/2.8 it becomes low, and by f/4.0 it disappears completely.
