Canon EF 100 mm f/2.8 Macro USM

10. Autofocus

In terms of quickness and silence of work the Canon rather deserves the three USM letters, in its name. The focusing mechanism is perhaps not blindingly quick but the focal range to operate is rather wide. On using restricted focus distances the speed of work increases significantly.

The autofocus accuracy makes us feel a bit unsatisfied, though. In studio conditions it missed in 10% of shots on average which is not a result we would expect from a 640 $ lens, equipped with an USM motor.

Fortunately, we didn’t notice any back- or frontfocus tendency.
