Telephoto lenses, even the cheap ones, usually have no problems when controlling distortion and the Nikkor 70-300 mm is no exception in this category.
The best situation is at the 70 mm focal length, where the barrel distortion is at an almost invisible level of -0.15%. As we increase the focal length the distortion immediately becomes pincushion and it starts increasing to 1.1% at 135 mm focal length. It doesn’t change until 200 mm, where it is still at 1.1% and then it slowly decreases to reach 0.9% at the 300 mm focal length.
