10. Autofocus
To make everything clear it’s worth adding that even at the maximum relative aperture the focus set at 7 metres will give you sharp images from 3.5 meters to infinity. There is just one problem: how to set the focus at those 7 metres when just next to the infinity symbol on the distance scale we can find the value of…1.3 metres.
Such issues shouldn’t necessarily preoccupy you because the lens uses a screwdriver mechanism to drive the focusing. Traditionally it buzzes audibly during the work but, by and large, it is its only flaw. The focus is set instantly (running through the whole scale takes 0.3 – 0.4 of a second) and the work of the mechanism is efficient; that and a significant depth of field practically guarantee the proper focus.

What’s interesting, taking photos from a very close distance and decreasing the DOF to the minimum we managed to notice that, attached to the K-5 camera, used in our test, the lens showed a slight back-focus. Fortunately it was easily corrigible by AF microcalibration, available in the menu of the reflex camera.
