Pros:
- excellent image quality in the frame centre,
- good image quality on the edge of the APS-C sensor,
- sensible image quality on the edge of full frame,
- lack of problems with longitudinal chromatic aberration,
- negligible lateral chromatic aberration,
- practically zero distortion,
- decent coma correction,
- moderate astigmatism,
- low vignetting on the APS-C sensor,
- silent, and accurate autofokus,
- out-of-focus areas pleasing to the eye.
Cons:
- significant vignetting on full frame.
The Zeiss Batis 2/40 CF is an expensive lens, with a price tag of $1100 but if you want and can spend that much you won't regret your decision. The tested lens will repay you with a truly sensational image quality.
To sum up in all testing categories the results of the Batis were good or simply excellent. It brushed against resolution records and, basically, had just one flaw. It's quite enough to award it our editorial office award – a round of applause!
