Nikon Nikkor Z 24-70 mm f/2.8 S

1. Introduction

In August 2018 took place the launch of full frame mirrorless Nikon Z system - at the same time the producers showed two bodies (the Z6 and the Z7) and three lenses. Among them was the universal zoom model, the Nikkor Z 24-70 mm f/4 S. Its main reason of existence was the need to ensure a presence of a kit lens in the system, a device which could be sold along with the bodies at a favourable price point. As we proved in our test, that part of their mission was accomplished with success.

Of course the Nikon Z system aims to please all groups of photographers, from beginners to weathered professionals. The problem is that last group woudl turn their noses up at a kit 24-70 mm model simply because in many professional uses the f/2.8 aperture seems to be indispensable. It became more than obvious that a journalistic 'beast of burden', so a 24-70 mm f/2.8 instrument, had to be launched on the market and rather sooner than later. Accordingly, already in February 2019, just six months after the launch of the new system, the company presented the Nikkor Z 24-70 mm f/2.8 S.
