11. Summary

Pros:

  • solid and sealed barrel,
  • excellent image quality in the frame centre,
  • good image quality on the edge of the APS-C/DX sensor,
  • sensible image quality on the edge of full frame,
  • moderate longitudinal chromatic aberration,
  • good correction of lateral chromatic aberration,
  • slight vignetting on the APS-C/DX sensor,
  • sensible coma correction,
  • lack of problems with astigmatism,
  • nice blurry areas for a zoom lens,
  • good performance against bright light,
  • silent and accurate autofocus.

Cons:

  • high vignetting level on full frame and across the whole range of focal lengths to boot,
  • some problems with spherical aberration in the middle of the focal lengths range,
  • distortion could have been lower.
An impressive list of advantages and a rather short list of flaws – that's what we expect from a flagship journalistic lens. The Nikkor Z 24-70 mm f/2.8 S didn't make us disappointed and showed clearly what you gain if you decide to switch from the cheaper and slower Nikkor Z 24-70 mm f/4 S.

Our summary is going to be exceptionally short because there is nothing to go on at length about. After all, the results of the tested lens are clear enough. Overall it's nice that professionals who have decided to enter the Nikon Z system finally have a tool every self-respecting system should offer.
