Pros:

  • solid, weather-sealed casing,
  • sensational image quality in the frame centre,
  • very good image quality on the edge of the APS-C/DX sensor,
  • good image quality on the edge of full frame,
  • negligible longitudinal chromatic aberration,
  • very good correction of lateral chromatic aberration,
  • lack of problems with spherical aberration,
  • slight vignetting on the APS-C/DX sensor,
  • very good coma correction,
  • out-of-focus areas pleasing to the eye for a zoom lens,
  • good performance against bright light,
  • silent, quick, and accurate autofocus,
  • efficient image stabilization.

Cons:

  • noticeable vignetting on full frame,
  • too high astigmatism.
In this place I have to repeat the majority of my remarks from the test of the Nikkor Z 24-70 mm f/2.8 S. You get an impressive list of advantages and a rather short list of flaws – that's what we expect from a flagship journalistic lens. The Nikkor Z 70-200 mm f/2.8 S VR didn't let us down, performing exceedingly well in almost all of our testing categories, end of the story.
