11. Summary

Pros:

  • solid, weather-sealed mechanical construction,
  • excellent image quality in the frame centre up from the maximum relative aperture,
  • acceptable image qualtiy on the edge of the frame,
  • very good correction of longitudinal chromatic aberration,
  • negligible lateral chromatic aberration,
  • lack of problems with distortion,
  • practically zero coma,
  • out-of-focus images nice to look at,
  • slight vignetting on the APS-C sensor,
  • quick, silend, and accurate autofocus.

Cons:

  • a bit too high astigmatism,
  • visible vignetting on full frame.
The mere comparison of pros and cons proves that the Sony FE 135 mm f/1.8 GM is a very well-done lens; if you assess these lists thinking about the importance of every asset and flaw, you will get rid of any doubts. Why? Because two cons merely deserve mentioning – the astigmatism is on the borderline between medium and high and vignetting is not very bothersome; additionally, this problem can be easily corrected by software.

In fact, the biggest problem of this lens seems to be its price. Over $2000 for a portrait prime is really too much; you have to be really determined to buy such a piece of equipment.
