When you pass to the full frame Sony A7R III nothing changes in this aspect – the autofocus remains noiseless and very fast.
The accuracy of the mechanism is once again very good in case of both camera bodies. Still nobody would expect another result when it comes to an ultra wide-angle lens with significant depth of field, making such a task much easier.

Freezing of the camera during taking photos at the maximum focal length is the only thing you can criticize here. Mind you, such moments are really rare but we have to mention them because they did happen in our test. As they concern both bodies we used we think they are more likely caused by the Tokina lens than by Sony cameras. What happens? After you set the focus from time to time you press the shutter and you aren't able to take the photo. Switching the camera off and on doesn't help - both the viewfinder and the screen remain black and you still cannot produce any image. Detaching the lens and attaching it again is the only thing that helps.
There was also no trace of front or back focus tendency – the lens hit always where we wanted it to do.
