As long as you work near the maximum relative aperture you won't experience any significant problems with ghosting and flares. We managed to catch them but, fortunately, they aren't especially intensive. Huge vignetting of the lens, reducing glare in the frame corners by over 3 EV, helps here a bit.
After stopping down the aperture vignetting decreases and flares start being bothersome. What's more, they can be noticed in many different situations, independent of the position of the sun. However, there is one position you should avoid - if you put the sun right behind the frame corner you can produce a really nasty flare that takes up the most of your photo.
As a consolation you should add that overall contrast of images doesn't decrease significantly.
