8. Vignetting

First let's check the vignetting performance on the smaller APS-C sensor – appropriate thumbnails you can find below.

Even at the maximum relative aperture vignetting is not especially high because it reaches a slight value of 23% (-0.76 EV). The problem disappears practically completely by f/2.0 and f/2.8, where we got the following results: 11% (-0.34 EV) and 2% (-0.07 EV).

After passing to the bigger, full frame sensor there are noticeably more problems and photos, presented below, show them rather well.

At the maximum relative aperture we got a high result, of 53% (-2.17 EV). This result is surprising because the bulky Meike should have performed better than the Sony FE 85 mm f/1.4 GM II. Still, the smaller and lighter Sony model shows here a bit lower result, reaching 49%.

It is interesting that the vignetting of the Meike 1.4/85 decreases quite slowly on stopping down the aperture. By f/2.0 this aberration gets to 37% (-1.32 EV), by f/2.8 it decreases to 32% (-1.13 EV), and by f/4.0 it amounts to 28% (-0.94 EV). The aberration still remains visible by f/5.6 and f/8.0 where we got the following brightness loss values: 22% (-0.73 EV) and 17% (-0.53 EV). Problems in this category end completely only by f/11 and f/16, where we got, respectively, 11% (-0.34 EV) and 9% (-0.28 EV).
