10. Autofocus

When joined with the Sony A7R III body the autofocus of the Sigma 2/20 is completely noiseless and quite quick. Running through the whole distance range and confirming the focus takes about 0.5-0.7 of a second and it seems that the speed doesn't depend on the direction of work. Such a result is perhaps not especially impressing in this class of parameters but you shouldn't complain too much about it either.

The accuracy of the focusing mechanism was good but we also noticed several surprising misses; there were also some cases of 'auto-focus hunting' around the right position. Such slip-ups are really strange, after all the lens offers you significant DOF and it makes the task of the autofocus easier.

When it comes to front or back focus tendencies we didn't observe anything wrong in ordinary photos. Still when we tried to take photos in the most difficult conditions possible, so at the maximum relative aperture and for the minimum focusing distance, we found out the depth of field was shifted slightly toward the photographer even though it managed to encompass also the proper aim.
