Chromatic aberration

The producers weren't skimpy when it comes to low dispersion glass and in the optical construction of the tested Sigma you get as many as three such elements. That fact is also clearly noticeable when it comes to correction of longitudinal chromatic aberration. Its level remains low even at the maximum relative aperture – another plus for the tested Sigma.

Looking at this graph you want to clap and cheer. The aberration depends very weakly on the aperture and it keeps a constant level from 0.02-0.03%. As all results below 0.04% we consider to be exceedingly good the Sigma once again should be praised. Of course you have to mention the fact that in this category its rivals performed equally well.

Spherical aberration

In first photos of this chapter you can't spot any focus shift effect. When it comes to out-of-focus circles of light we got before and behind the focus there are no significant differences. It's true that there is a slight brighter rim but it is present in images of both circles and a distinct difference between the circles, with a brighter rim in one case, and a darker edge in the other, is the crux of the matter and a sure sympton of badly corrected spherical aberration. As here there's no such effect, spherical aberration is corrected properly well. It is additionally confirmed by a relatively high resolution of the Sigma by f/1.4.
