Pros:

  • solid barrel with sensible dimensions,
  • excellent image quality in the frame centre,
  • very good image quality on the edge of the APS-C/DX sensor,
  • good image quality on the edge of full frame,
  • negligible longitudinal chromatic aberration,
  • very low lateral chromatic aberration,
  • lack of any noticeable problems with spherical aberration,
  • slight distortion,
  • sensible coma correction,
  • negligible astigmatism,
  • moderate vignetting on the APS-C/DX sensor,
  • good performance against bright light,
  • silent, quick, and accurate autofocus.

Cons:

  • very high vignetting on full frame.
The new Sigma A 50 mm f/1.2 DG DN was launched on the market with a price tag of around $1390 so over $600 less than the price of the rival Sony FE 50 mm f/1.2 GM. As the Sigma is able to compete with the Sony on equal terms, we think it was an excellent move.

Taking into account the fact that the tested lens presents a whole list of important assets and just one flaw, we don't have any doubts it deserves our 'Editor's Choice' badge. Congratulations!
