11. Summary

Pros:

  • solid and stylish barrel,
  • outstanding resolution in the frame centre,
  • very good resolution on the edge of the frame,
  • imperceptible longitudinal chromatic aberration,
  • negligible lateral chromatic aberration,
  • slight distortion,
  • silent and efficient autofocus,
  • very nice out-of-focus areas,
  • excellent price/performance ratio.

Cons:

  • noticeable vignetting,
  • distinct focus breathing.
I have no doubts – after the excellent Viltrox AF 75 mm f/1.2 the company went with the flow and presented an equally well-put-together 1.2/27 model. What's more, the price of this lens is very sensible indeed – you can buy it for less than $580.

I thought long and hard whether or not the Viltrox AF 27 mm f/1.2 should be awarded our 'Editor's Choice' badge. It was really close but finally I decided not to do so. Apart from two flaws it has too many medium results (coma, astigmatism, flares) and this fact tipped the scales. Of course it doesn't change the fact that you deal with an excellent lens and I recommend its purchase wholeheartedly.
