We've often criticized Viltrox, like other Chinese producers, for a weak performance against bright light. The AF 27 mm f/1.2 model shows that the Viltrox optics specialists try to improve the performance of their models in this category and the situation goes to the right direction.
Near the maximum relative aperture the problems are really few and far between. They increase on a more significant stopping down of the aperture but even then light artifacts basically can be caught on two occasions. The first one occurs when the sun is positioned right outside the frame corner – then a very bright white-yellow flare might appear in the very corner of the frame. The second situation is a bit more surprising because it takes place when a source of very bright light is positioned far away from the frame. Despite that fact a relatively bright, rainbow arc might appear in one of the frame corners.
A lack of distinct brightness loss across the frame is a kind of consolation here.
