7. Coma, astigmatism and bokeh

Coma and optical aberrations of higher degrees that deform the shape of point-like sources of light, aren't corrected in a perfect way. In the frame corner you see a combination of the classic 'comma' caused by the coma exactly, and 'wings' that are an effect of the influence of other aberrations. Still it is an image that doesn't provide any serious reasons to complain and fits medium levels.

In order to make the situation clear and comprehensive we decided to present also crops from photos of the sky taken from the upper right-hand corner of full frame. This time we show shots by f/1.2, f/1.8, and f/2.5. In this case coma looks similar to the images we got during our diode tests. It's pretty obvious that only after stopping down the aperture to f/2.5 the 'wings' disappear completely but even then the star takes a shape of a short line.

Astigmatism, understood as an average difference between vertical and horizontal MTF50 function values, amounted to 15.7%. It is a value positioned on the borderline between a medium and high level so giving you some reasons to complain. At the same time you can notice that this aberration influences image quality mainly by f/1.2 and f/1.4; by f/2.0 it decreases significantly and by f/2.8 it disappears almost completely.

Defocused circles of light look very nice, with even light spread. You can't notice any local extreme points, everything is very smooth and the bright rim is not especially conspicuous. Even the presence of one aspherical element doesn't cause any effects connected to the onion ring bokeh. It would be difficult to complain about mechanical vignetting because it disappears completely on stopping down the aperture by 2 EV.
